Medicine Lodge Shorthorns is a family ranch established in the fall of 2020 with a small herd of 7 shorthorn cows. Since then we have traveled all over western Canada selecting females that fit the bill of what we want in our herd. Raising good cattle that will last for years is what we strive for, putting a strong precedent on confirmation, growth and feed efficiency.  Our herd management is based on an environment of high roughage diets and limited energy supplements. We do not creep feed during the summer grazing and weaned animals are fed throughout the winter on free choice grass hay and a limited grain mixture. We want to see the true growth potential in our herd without sacrificing the longevity of the breeding animals. We have adopted a strong culling system and are committed to continuously learning and improving what we do here. We stand behind our Shorthorn breed in the purebred arena or commercial herds looking to build strengths of maternal traits , growth, or carcass.
